3 speed to auto swap
I have a 1970 f100 with 302 v-8, 3 speed on the column standard from factory. not overdrive. I have a 1982 f150 donor truck with 351 Windsor c-6 automatic. I want to convert my standard to this automatic. can it be done, or is it more trouble than its worth. thanks.

It certainly can be done, but you'll need to source all the parts for the swap. I did the same swap when building my truck.
Here's some things you'll need to get you started.
*Automatic column
*The correct firewall mounting bracket (depends if you have power steering or not) P.s this would also be the time to go to ps
*Your transmission will bolt up to your 302 since it's a small block windsor bolt pattern
*Pedal assembly, although you may can just remove your clutch pedal.
*You'll need the linkage for the transmission.
*You will have to have transmission cooler lines as well. A new radiator may be needed or figure a way to add a cooler
*The driveshaft will have to be changed as well. I measured after installing the transmission and went to my local junkyard. I found a shaft that was close in length and the same cap size for the u-joints, and had it cut to fit at a machine shop.
Kinda long winded post, but maybe this will help you in the swap. This was just off the top of my head. If I missed something I'm sure another member will chime in.

You'll have to relocate your tyranny cross member too but that's just drilling holes. If you put in a floor shift you can keep your original column but, like cole71 said, now would be a good time to add p/s.

Re: 3 speed to auto swap
sure wanna thank you guys. I have power steering already, and have a steering column from a 1972 f100. I think I should be able to go, with the donor truck driveshaft.sargentrs wrote:You'll have to relocate your tyranny cross member too but that's just drilling holes.
