Pinion angle ?

Post by 70f10rat »

Put rear shocks on so I could measure pinion angle for shims. Rear hanger flip. Rear pinion was at 20 deg. Trans output was at 4 deg. Largest shims I could find are 8 deg. Is it fine to stack shims? And is it normal to have this big of difference in angle after the flip?

I made sure my points I measured were parallel to the ground, but I also read to measure from universal caps..?

So as it stands I need 16 deg. Plus two for deflection under load! 18 degrees?!?!!

Any info or suggestions appreciated.

Gee whiz, measure your pinion angle BEFORE any modifications and you won't need to ask :)
4-5 degrees (matched) to the driveline angle will be sufficient.

Regardless of prior measurements optimum pinion angle should be equal, trans to rear end , then add a few degrees for windup...... Maybe you mis- understood . I've read and read about pinion angles. I just asked about stacking shims and common pinion mis-alignment with a rear hanger flip.

I can't see an issue with stacking shims, so long as there is enough of the alignment stud protruding into the shims and into the housing perch.

Or you could remove and reweld your perches.

Thought about that, I am a certified welder with a machine... But kinda worried about positioning them correctly.... Freaks me out a tad.... What would be the best way to determine and accurately position perches?
