np205 pto

Post by Redneck Roo »

I have a 77 f-250 that's divorced. Swapped out 4 speed for a divorced c-6. Had PTO on trans for my winch, looking for part #'s or other help for PTO that fits on the np205. PTO needs to be forward facing, passenger side mount. maybe someone has one kicking around. Any help would be great! Thanks

Since it has been about 25 years since I retired from doing fleet work, all this will be just what I can recall about the small PTO's. What you have/had on the 4spd should be a small single spd in/out PTO unit or a single spd reversing 6 bolt mount unit. It should be able to mount on the Transfer Case the same as it did on the Transmission. You should be able to mount it with the output shaft facing to the front or back. You will use extra gaskets or shims as needed to setup the backlash from the gear in the PTO to the driving gear in the Transmission or Transfer Case, As I remember about .010 backlash needed or you will tear things up. You will have to rig up a lever or cable to operate the unit. You will have to fab up a longer driveshaft from it to whatever you are driving with it. You may have to use multiple shafts with "U" joints and some hangers to work around obstacles. As I remember "Chelsea" was a large producer of both the small 6 bolt unit and the larger 8 bolt unit. You might try searching for more info, but this should give you a start.

thanks for the info. not my luck for the same pto to fit 2 applications. it is a chelsea pto, model 38xscbx w6xd. well versed with the u joints, hangers and pull cable along with the shims. i didn't know that it could be reversed though. i am assuming i will need to be able to put power to the 205 in order for the pto to function. not sure how that is going to work out if the truck is stuck or another rig is stuck

There isn't much interchange with PTO's. 205 PTO's are pretty easy to find used around here it seams.
