Info on driveshaft

I was thinking about putting a 4 speed in my truck.

I have the tranny and it looks like it is either a T-18 or a T-98.

The housing on top says T-98 but according to my sources it could be either one underneath.

Anyway does anybody have, or know any info on a driveshaft for the short wheelbase trucks?

Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

Good choice. Junkyard. Or get one built.

T98 and T18 are about the same. T19 has a synchro for 1st.
You'll like 1st gear. You can pull houses over!

How much should one expect to pay for one out of a junkyard?

The closest ones to me in town don't carry anything that old and the one pick and pull I could check isn't open until after the snow melts and the ground firms up again.


ALSO what are the specs of the driveshaft? IE how long, how big around?
If I get one made I want to have some factory specs to compare to.

I won't be using the driveshaft out of my truck, which has a T18. It is a two piece driveshaft. You could probably have the rear section shortened, unless the shortbeds used a 1 piece shaft

I'll have to pull the driveshaft to get a weight for shipping, that may be a couple days.

Shortbeds do use a one-piece driveshaft with a slip-yoke in the transmission.

The tranny I have came from a long bed and doesn't have the slip on end.

If you have a custom one (driveshaft) made FYI: Remember the strength of the driveshaft is in it's diameter (tubing), not in it's thickness (gauge). :cents:
