steering column housing

Post by 69f-100 »

I have a 69 f100 2wd automatic with power steering, does anyone have a steering column housing that they would sell? This column should measure to be 28 1/16 inches long to be the correct one for an automatic with power steering.

Crap Bill, It has to be 28 1/16 long for it to be for a automatic with power steering. According to the information on this forum the one you have is for manual steering. Mine is an automatic with p/s and it measures 28 1/16 long just like it says it should on here.

If you look in the tech/tutorials for "how to shorten your manual steering-column" it shows the different lengths per application. Scroll down to "Sectioning the Shifter Tube, Main Shaft and Main Housing" and look in the blue box for "column housing" power steering- 28 1/16 and manual steering- 30 7/16.

If you happen to come across one that would be great.

i want to hijack this thread. I'm doing the ms/ps steering column shortening. I'm trying to put it all back together. I"m at the point where I need to bolt the turn signal assembly onto the housing. It doesn't seem to want to seat all the way. I've triple checked my lengths. Both the shifter tube and the outer housing are exactly as the chart specifies. It looks to my eye that I need to cut the shift tube about 3/4" shorter than specified to get the blinker assembly close enough to the housing to "engage" it and bolt it down.

Anyone else had this problem? Am I missing something?
