Thanks for the ideas, Pinche and Cragar! I'm still so far from being there, I have plenty of time to think about it.

Thanks John!

Hope you've got plenty of popcorn Cragar, this is an epic miniseries not a feature film

Can't let the winter stop me from making some kind of progress so took the downtime as an opportunity to work on more of the "bits and pieces" so they'll be ready for installation this spring. Got the heater box rebuilt, painted, and did the heater fan upgrade thing (thanks for the write up, knightfire83!)

Rather than duplicate it here, I wrote in up in this thread for others to use if need be. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=73960 Now to rummage through the "pile o' parts" and find something else to work on. My hit list for the winter is...

Mustang seat slides rebuild
Parking brake pedal assembly refurb
F600 Instrument cluster (that's going to cost some $$ for gauges)
Ashtray rebuild/refurb
Windshield wiper assembly refurb
Kick panel vents clean and repaint
Hood latch assembly refurb
What else.... :hmm:

Watcha doing for your F600 cluster gauges? I have one and am going to keep the gauges that are there except the tach that goes to 3500 rpm. $400 to have the tach rebuilt or $114 Stewart Warner that looks stock but needs to be finagled in to a lager hole.

I'll be adding a few more gauges than the usual config. I want, basically, full on board diagnostics on the instrument cluster. Besides the normal, I want to add fuel pressure, vacuum, oil temp and either trans oil temp or EGT (exhaust gas temp). The only manufacture I found that made all the gauges, except the quad gauge, is Glow Shift Direct. http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/black-7- ... gauge.aspx I can make the numbers whatever color I want. I'll be going with a black face and white number scheme. Here's a crude Photoshop of the cluster when done. Didn't a pic with white number so visualize the blue as white (like the quad gauge). Still haven't decided to chrome the bezel or paint it Argent Silver or some other color.

They were really cruddy and rusty so I started by removing the brackets from the seat. Actually, it's pretty simple. Just remove the springs and take out two large, round head, phillips head bolts on each slide and they come right off.
mms_img1430550388 (1).jpg
To separate the top and bottom slide halves, you'll have to bend down the retainer tab on both ends. You can see it on the end of the bracket in this pic. It actually bends easily with a strong pair of pliers.

There're two large roller bearings, one on each end, and a couple of pins in the channel bracket that keep the seat from just sliding out of the bracket. Slide the bracket all the way to one end and the bearing will be right at the end of slide. The retainer tab is still barely holding it in so I took a punch through the last hole and tapped it the rest of the way out.
mms_img1076644574.jpg
Get them both out of each end and the slide will come right out. Here's what the roller bearing looks like when it's out.
mms_img1430550388.jpg
There are nylon slide spacers on either end, front and rear, that keep the slide centered in the bracket. These will fall right out when you separate the two halves.

Once you have them separated, you're ready for clean, lube and paint.
mms_img-1496838699.jpg
About 20 minutes with a wire wheel on my bench grinder and electric drill and this piece is about ready for paint. That's all the time I have for now. Hopefully I'll get the rest of the pieces cleaned and prepped over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Snazee! I would like them better if they didn't put their goofy logo in the middle of the gauge. The prospect of having the back lighting is VERY appealing. The fact that they are 3.75 would be a perfect fit for the hole that needs to be filled.

those gauges are 2 fast AND 2 furious! the only problem is where are you gonna put the NAWWWWS with the in cab tank?

i love what you're doing with the whole project, but i'm not sure how you're gonna get frisky with your old lady in bucket seats? clue me in on those skillz? i gotta haul a baby seat so maybe the bucket seats are a few years off... OG mustang seats look cool as crap though.

give me a couple months for texas heat to break me down on the AC thing and i might have that crazy add-on evap coil mod figured out. way more hot-rod than a big dingus blower box hanging down. if you can wait till summer, i'm sure daily driving the bump will motivate me pretty quick to get it worked out.

Thanks, Pinche! Yeah, I'm not too keen on the logo either. Maybe once I get my hands on one, and see if the glass comes out easily, I can mask it somehow.

Thanks, motz! My wife hates my truck so I don't think "frisky" is a consideration  My stepson has a 2010 F150 with buckets and a console. His console doubles as a seat with 2 storage compartments. Perfect for the car seat application. I'm watching that a/c idea, looks real interesting. Maybe you'll have it figured out by the time I get to adding one.

Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild - Mustang bucket seat slides

So I've been thinking about what mott said (not the "frisky" part, but about the child seat) and I wanted a console. So I was riding with my stepson in his 2010 F150 the other day and the light bulb went off in my head. I think I've found a solution to both our quandaries.
mms_img610025078.jpg
mms_img-1643502792.jpg
A couple of quick measurements and it looks like it'll sit between the Mustang buckets nicely. Now to find one, cheap, and figure out how to mount it. I'll get it recovered to match my seats when I get those done. How about it, Mott!? Will this convince you to get those Mustang seats? :D
