Junkyard run parts list for 9" rear brake conversion.

Post by luke-ao »

I want to look for parts for a disk brake conversion on my 9" rear. I found this chart online and can't match up my rearend. Measuring as close as possible with calipers on the back side of my plates under the truck, my measurements match the "BIG FORD" but the shape is like the "BIG FORD" (NEW STYLE) Flange.

Any ideas which vehicles I should be looking for in the junkyard? And what all should I be removing?

Mine looks like the BIG FORD (New Style) also, don't know about the dimensions though. Here's the best source of info on the 9", IMO. http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

Lots of good info, I have it book marked.

I have a personal machine shop so modding some parts is not a big deal, but I'm not sure what to be looking for in terms of year make and model donor vehicle. I did a bunch of research but can't find basic information, everything is buried under a ton of other information.

I bumming a ride to the salvage yard so I'm in a rush. :(

What is the big concern about adapting the brakes, is it just the backing plate bolting to the housing flange?

Far be it for me to refer anyone to the "dark side" or promote using Chebbie parts on a Ford truck but check out this thread and the pics on page 2. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/81921 ... elp-2.html

I havent bought the kit yet from these guys but I did call them once and they were helpful. The guy told me they use Dodge Ram 1500 rotors with a 5x5.5" pattern and Chevy emergency brake calipers. All you need to tell them is the axle to flange offset.
