Re: '70 Sport Custom Rebuild - Choosing upholstery/carpet

Post by sargentrs »

So all along I've had this vision of my interior as bright red with saddle brown seats, matching headliner and either black or dark red carpet. Went to a local upholstery shop today and I think I've found my material for the seats. I've attached the pic of the factory bucket interior as kind of a guide. My red's a lot louder than that and I'm afraid with the red carpet it would be too much. What do ya'll think? What color carpet, black or dark red? Any other suggestions? I like to plan this stuff months in advance so I know what to budget.

Myself I'd do that brown on the seats with a red center section on them or red piping and stick with the red carpet, the brown on the side of the seats will break it up. Red interiors are a dying look and shouldn't be, staying with just brown and red will have a nice contrast not throwing black in there. Btw lookin good!

Thanks! The red piping idea sounds real good. I wasn't enthused about black carpet either. Maybe a darker red? Also be building a console between the seats so I was thinking the same seat covering there or contrast it with matching the piping.

I'm thinking tan rather than brown for the seats and tan carpet as well.

I thought about the lighter tan too but haven't found one I like. Also concerned about wearability and staining on a lighter color. I'd like to see a pic of tan seats in a red interior for comparison but haven't found anything yet. Thanks for the input!

i know it will be a hard choice to pick color, so with the many dollars spent on interior i'm sure you want it right the first time. It does not hurt to plan way ahead as you say you're doing. Good luck on whatever you choose.. As i am trying to stay on a budget build, i kept mine plan and simple which is black on blue.

Dude! Find a tan carpet and a seat fabric to match that tan. Then accent the seat with red. That would be wicked. If you could find a red hounds tooth even better!

It's kinda the same template I followed...

Yeah, that seat looks amazing!!! The hounds tooth was a good choice! I'm collecting images for reference as I'm trying to come up with ideas for my seat as well. I'm a ways off though...still doing metal/body work.

It's out there in red. Saw it on a sample seat and it look like the pic below. I used the tan one next to the orange one.

Image

This tan would look good with red..

I agree with pinche, the tan carpet with your load red would look great. But I agree, red carpet with everything else red.. Especially a loud red. Might be too much.

Keep the pics coming, your build looks great. :fr:
