Front pump reseat after seal change

hey all! I pulled by C6 on my 72 F-100 to address a leaking problem. I pulled the pump and replaced the O ring and the gasket behind the pump. I stood the transmission on end and reseated the pump housing, but I think something may be binding.

When I torque the pump back in place should I be able to rotate the input & output shafts freely when shifted to neutral? The pump housing seems to fit in place correctly when I set it back in, but I seem to remember that I could rotate the output shaft freely without much effort. Is there something that might have come loose when I pulled out the pump that I need to reset? I see that the part that the pump fits into is enclosed by the bands. Maybe something shifted while fiddlin' around with the pump? Thanks all!

Yes, the input shaft should turn fairly easy & the output easier in one direction & harder to turn in the other...You probably have either a clutch disc or a thrust washer out of place. To qualify that: take the pump back out, remove the "0" ring & gasket, see if the pump is sitting against the case....use a dab of grease, or play dough if you can't tell...if you have the pan off, you can look in & see if it is going all the way in.
You should have the trans in a drum or holding device of some kind so the rear shaft is NOT sitting on the floor....If your pump does not sit flat, all the way in, one or the other (above) is out of place.......Donnie
