Disconnect driveshaft F-100 72 C6 transmission
I have a noob question about how to disconnect the driveshaft from the transmission on a 72 F-100 with a C6. I'm going to replace the seals on the C6 but I'm not sure where to start to disconnect the drive shaft. It's a two piece drive shaft with a yoke on the output of the transmission and a center piece connecting the front and rear drive shaft parts together. The U joints are held in place by 2 U bolts at the rear of the transmission and at the very end of the shaft by the rear axle. The Ford manual is vague at best on how to actually disconnect the drive shaft. Thanks!

Take the nuts attaching the u bolts at the rear. remove the u bolts and let the rear of the driveshaft drop down. (carefully) Then pull the front of the driveshaft out of the tranny.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

After the the U-joints are free, give them a couple wraps with tape to keep the caps from falling off.

I just unbolt the two bolts holding the support bearing to the x-member and lower the whole driveshaft carefully. If your tranny has a slip yoke, the slip yoke will pull out of the tranny. To re-install I just lift the driveshaft, slide the slip yoke back into the tranny and put the two support bearing bolts back.pickly wrote:I have a noob question about how to disconnect the driveshaft from the transmission on a 72 F-100 with a C6.
