ibeam spindle attach question

Post by buddhayesca »

Is it unusual for a 1979 with this vin F158UEC2391, 2wd, max gvw 06050 to have forged ibeam, spindle attach with kingpins? I think it was a camper special. It has disc brakes.
In chilton's it seems to say that only the f250,f350 have this and the 150 and 100 have the stamped ibeam with spindle attach without kingpins.
I'm wondering because it is the forged type with kingpin that came out of above truck going into a 1970 ranger f100 2wd and i just want to make sure nothing's going to pee on my parade overly much.
Thanks much

I've never seen stamped I-beams on these rigs. Are you sure the reference is to I-beams rather than a differentiation between early cast iron radius arms vs later stamped steel radius armsl?

I don't know about what year they started but yes they went to stamped I beams and ball joints rather than a king pin my 82 F-100 had them. BUT the heavy duty and super duty trucks retain the cast I beams.

OP is referring to a Dentside with stamped I-beams. Unusual to me.... Post a pic OP and let us see it.

IIRC, 1980 was the first year with ball joints.

Thanks for your replies. Here is a pic, although i can see it is forged type w kingpin. Upon rereading chilton pages they said "some later light-duty f100 and f150 models utilize a stamped ibeam..." and then they never have a section about forged on f100/150, only stamped. But i guess this being a 79, and going by what you guys said, it probably is not unusual.
I was just being paranoid because i didn't pull the front end myself. I'm just going by what the guys who pulled it told me it came from. The caliper was a single piston which points to f150.
Thanks

Here's what was strange about your original post: "In chilton's.............the 150 and 100 have the stamped ib ... gpins[/b]."

That's a typical cast iron I-beam.
