clutch size any way to tell without removal?

Post by TFmech »

Is there any way to tell if my 70 highboy has a 10.5 or 11 inch clutch without taking it out and measuring it? Second will either clutch bolt onto the flywheel? Do they both fit in the bell housing? The reason I ask is tbr clutch is working right now but is close to needing to be replaced and I want to order one for it before I take it apart. Thanks for the belp .

Back in that time frame, I worked as a Fleet Mechanic and what seemed to be standard practice was that if the pickup had a 3 spd trans, it would be the smallest clutch size available and if it had a 4 spd, it would have the 11 inch disk. More than likely yours will have the big one, but not guaranteed. The flywheel is drilled for one size only, so to change from one size to another, a different flywheel would be needed.
