1966 F100 3Speed
Hello fellow truck lovers, I purchased a 66 Ford f100 the other day with a 352cid. motor for my grandson. Things go down hill from there. I back it off the trailer and can't find 1st( shifter has been relocated to the floor) I moved that shifter every direction you can think of, my wife comes over and insist she have a turn. Are ya getting da picture, this is suppose to be a pawpaw grandson moment. To make matters worst she gets it in 1st and drives around me in circles laughing at me. OK women, out of the truck!!!, Time for a real man to take over, this is her maden voyage with pawpaw/grandson.. We get about 2 miles down the road and I decide it's time to turn her lose. I stop, rev it up, pop the clutch and the old 352 comes alive. She sends us down the road in a ocean of memories for me and a first time for my grandson. I let her wind and when I hit the clutch petal it goes "blam", hits the floor and all that fun was over. You can pull it back up by hand but when you push it down, it stays there. All springs are in tack, Z bars ok, can't find problem, I am able to reach up with one hand and pull the clutch fork back. Should I be able to do that?

Sounds like the spring clip has weakened or broke off and the fork came off the pivot inside the bellhousing. Probably have to get another fork with a good clip on it.

Now you get even more quality time with your grandson. He gets to learn how to pull the transmission, troubleshoot and repair your clutch problem One of the many joys of owning a "classic".

Re: 1966 F100 3Speed
I knew you guys were a bundle of joy, ha, ha,no really, thanks for the tips. I knew when I pulled the clutch arm back with one hand that could not be good. I'm sure I'm not the first guy to have this happen too. While I was going down memory lane did I let to much pressure bill up before shifting? Does the archives have "Changing clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing" on this site. I need you guys to hold my hand, first ford, besides you guys wouldn't want me to look bad in front of my grandson AGAIN would you. Thank You Guys Very Much. SafetyBill

Know what transmission you have? If not, can you post a photo? In the meantime, food for thought. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... p?p=368141 And maybe this will help you identify your transmission http://www.fordification.com/tech/schematics_g.htm and the schematic for your clutch linkage is there too.
