Toe Alignment Specs

Post by Ten4321 »

So I finally finished my power steering swap and due to complications I was forced to use the entire drag link from the donor truck. With the drag link installed there was quite a lot of tow out in the front wheels. So much that the truck would wander from side to side pretty bad at any speed over 20mph. To fix it I measured the length of my old tie rod and adjusted the new one to match. Does anyone know the toe alignment spec? At this point the tires are at tow in which may or may not be correct. I had to adjust this myself because it was so bad there was no way that I could safely get to an alignment shop from my house. Another quick question. Should the entire drag link have some forward to back play? There is absolutely no side to side play but if you twist the drag link from front to back it does move a bit.

Thanks for any help

Movement from twisting as you describe is normal. You want no up & down play on the ends if you try to compress them by hand. You will need the wheels off the ground to check this. You want to measure at the same point on the tires front & rear of the front tires. 1/8" toe in (front measurement 1/8" less than the rear measurement) will serve you well. The ideal point of measurement is in line with the center of the hub.
