Torque Converter Help

Post by zgtw03 »

Is there a different stall speed for a truck vs car torque converter? Is there anyway to tell what TC I have? What would happen if you had a car TC with F100, 390, C6 tranny. The only markings I have is F23-4. I cant find anything on this site or in ford # on it. I just want to use the right TC. Any help would be great.

Hi, car / truck/.....not a good way to tell....the # that you supplied can be identified as an after mkt converter that has been rebuilt..
Once a converter has been rebuilt is is not possible to really tell the torque multiplication ratio or the stall speed..all that I can tell you about your converter is what it was used in originally.....sort of, this is not 100%.......but pretty close
that converter is a 12 inch unit with no gear, no shroud, an 1.848 pilot & can be used in :
67 - 71 Cougar 390 /428
65 - 74 Merc 352, 390, 410, & 428
66 - 71 Fairlane Torino 390 & 428
Are you running this converter now ? or just planning, building....or ????????...............Donnie
you may find this info useless, but that is the best that I can do

Donnie thanks for the response. This is the TC that came with the C6 in the truck when I bought it. The transmition has been just rebuilt and I wanted to be sure that I had the correct TC. The 390 motor will be warmed up this winter (I hope). What TC would you recommend with the f100 setup I have? Thanks glen

Glen , it is hard to answer with out knowing a LOT more about your truck. There are about 20 questions that factor into selecting or building a converter.....If your truck is a 2wd ( easy pull)....I would go with what you have & see if it is doing what you expect it to do or NOT...
Only then can you make a more informed choice....You can see what the converter was used in & why not try it???
I know that you were expecting more info, but I'm being honest..........Drive it & tell me what it is doing or Not doing, then I may be able to add more to your saga......Donnie
