This is buggin the heck out of me
Feel free to point and laugh when I ask this because I'm sure anyone who can answer it will want too. What holds the drum, and more importantly my wheel, on the end of one of the Dana rear ends? I need to put one of these back together, my grandfather took it apart, and I've been staring at exploded view diagrams for a day now and I cant figure it out. I want to make sure that whatever it is is firmly in place when I'm done. Thanks.

Hi,
If you are referring to a "floating" Dana 60 that our 3/4 trucks have, then there are 2 large (2-9/16) nuts that secure the drum to the axle tube. I believe they are called bearing retainer nuts.
There is also a star shaped lock washer that goes in between these 2 nuts.
Torque first nut to about 55ft/lbs while spinning the drum by hand. Then back wrench off 3/8 turn. Put the lock washer on then the 2nd nut and torque to about 110ft/lbs. Finally, bend tabs on lock washer "in" and "out" to prevent either nut from turn'un.

Thank you Lee.
Would anyone know of a good thread or video on how to reassemble these?
