Post by blumule »

had a spare center from a 9 inch.im gonna put in bearings and attempt my first rebuild.upon disassembly I see the timed mark in pinion gear but no such marks anywhere in ring gear.however this same color coded mark is on the backside of ring gear. heres a pic , its the v shaped mark. is this the ring gear timing mark or what?

That is not the timing mark on the carrier. Keep in mind that the ring gear can be rotated on the carrier if removed

Check on the inside diameter of the ring gear teeth. When the marks are aligned, it looks like they were all made by one swipe with the marking paint.

yeah I ve searched inside ring gear with a magnifying glass . no paint marks. I should have marked them both before disassembly. I assumed the would be evident.
