pinion angle?
I'm putting a 351 M Auto in my 69 ford f100 2wd and it has a 9" rear end, I want to put a one piece drive shaft in. My question is what should the pinion angle be set at and how exactly is that done? Help Please

Re: pinion angle?
Unless the rear end and rear suspension have been modified the pinion angle should be good where it is.

Re: pinion angle?
I removed mine, disassembled and painted every everything and put new spring bushings in. So the pinion angle is fine if I just bolt it all back in its original mounting?BobbyFord wrote:Unless the rear end and rear suspension have been modified the pinion angle should be good where it is.

Re: pinion angle?
Thanks Sargentrs, I got the frame all stripped and cleaned today and will be putting on rust protection and paint this week. Plan to have a roller real soon so I can get back to the body. I've taken pictures so I'll get some posted soon.

Re: pinion angle?
The answer is the same angle as your engine.

Re: pinion angle?
average f250,that's what a neighbor told me last night was if the transmission is say 4 down then the rear end should be 4 up. Is that what your saying?

Re: pinion angle?
Yep. Draw an imaginary line through the pinion centerline and the crankshaft centerline. Those lines are perfectly parallel.buff wrote:average f250,that's what a neighbor told me last night was if the transmission is say 4 down then the rear end should be 4 up. Is that what your saying?
Good idea to use something somewhat accurate to measure the angle.
