Kickdown Lever woes
I decided to hook up my kick-down lever on my 1970 C6 using a Lokar-like kit (it's a cable that replaces the rod). The kickdown has been disconnected for ages. When checking the lever on the tranny, I noticed I can pull it in and out quite easily. It also rotates 360 degrees with no resistance whatsoever. Obviously nothing is being engaged to be "kicked down". What does the shaft engage with and can this be fixed without the services of a tranny shop. Automatic trannies are somewhat of a mystery to me so please break any explanations down to Barney level. Thank you very much.

If you drop the pan, everything will become obvious to you, you can see for your self the problem..There is a valve (plunger) that is not being stroked.. It just has to be pushed in to it's max at WOT........ You can do this with the pan off to see if it is working correctly...Not sure why you are using a cable?????..................Donnie

I really appreciate the help.......dropping the pan sounds simple enough. I'm using a cable because I've been running a Megasquirt system and I am using TBI instead of a carb. Have a good day.

Re: Kickdown Lever woes
Sort of, the largest valve, the one with the notch, closest to your middle finger is the gear selector valve. That notch will engage with the rod coming down from your gear selector ---in next to it is a smaller plunger, you can push it with your finger to check it's movement. That is the one that must be pushed in to give you kickdown.....you are close , but no cigar.........Yes that piece is broken, if you can reposition it in the old break pattern, you may save it, but it strokes the valve with the SMALLER pin..........good luck, Donnie
