Any NP435 Transmission Experts??

Post by karlatteberry »

I have a couple of specific questions that I would like to pose to someone that is very versed with this specific transmission. Long story short - had it re-sealed by AAMCO ( by far the worst customer service I have EVER experienced). After 2 months of fighting with them to fix a cleary messed up tranmission (and broken jack shaft from improper installation), I ended up pulling the tranmission myself (with good ole Pops who is a retired ASE Certified mechanic) and taking it to a local rebuild shop. When I drained the oil it looked like metallic paint! took it in and asked the shop to document what they found. Well - there was a thrust washer (bearing race maybe?) missing on the countershaft and it basically tore up the end cap (and shaft). The input shaft was improperly shimmed. So basicilaly my "re-seal" completley destroyed my transmission after about 1000 miles of use. Note that truck only has 132,000 original miles on it. I would actually like to talk with someone to ask a few specific questions I have been asked, but want to make sure I understand everything correctly. So - if you have a good working knowledge of NP435's, and don't mind shooting the breeze with me for a few minutes - send me a message and I can reply back with my cell phone, etc.

Thanks in advance!!

Man that sucks a big one. Hate to hear they butchered your tranny.

I can't help you, but I will bump your post to the top of the pile. Hopefully one of the tranny guys will see it.

Good luck!

Thanks Papabug71. Yea - it pretty much sucks - but the good news is that the 2nd place - Transmission exchange in Portland did an outstanding job on the rebuild - its back in the truck - and runs great!! I'm just out ALOT more money than I should be :(

My issue was the first shop I took it to pretty much ruined it after their "reseal". Long story - but ended up taking it out myself and had it done by a MUCH better shop that did an outstanding job on a complete rebuild. Wasn't that hard to drop out (helps alot if you have a tranmission jack).
