Truck bouncing when in reverse

I have a1970 Shortbed with a 302 and manual 3 speed on the floor. When the trans is in reverse the truck bounces like crazy until I get it moving. It also has a slight bouncing effect, or more of a studder, when in the forward gears when releasing the clutch. Any ideas? I'm thinkin pressure plate and clutch then u-joints but I didn't know if anyone had experience with this.

sounds like a good possibility of clutch/flywheel, but a little easier to first check your engine/trans/rear axle mounts.

Mine behaved similarly. I replaced the clutch and had the flywheel ground. Cured the problem. The clutch looked like it had some life to it so it was probably the flywheel anyway. But if you to that much trouble might as well replace the clutch.

My dad's '75 did the same thing when his motor mount let loose. Have an assistant stand outside the truck with the hood open and see if the engine is rolling over alot when you let out on the clutch. Dad's engine jumped around like a monkey on meth. That would be where I started, and it's the easiest to check, too.

Sure sounds like a dished out flywheel/clutch to me. Mine was doing the same thing when I started the tear down.

Could very well be from a leaking rear main seal as mine was.

This happened to me when my motor mount separated. It was a pretty violent jerking that only happened on initial take off, once you were going it would act normal.

II've ordered a clutch and flywheel and will be putting it in this Saturday. The truck was a mess when I got it and ive got the bodywork and paint done. I had a horrible time with the carburetor which is a Holley 2300 performance model. Turns out that Holley sent the wrong power valve spring in the kit I ordered. It took a while to finally figure that out but she runs great now. The motor mounts are still solid so that isnt the issue. Ill post a couple preview pics of the truck today.
