Conversion to LSD
Now that I have improved the power in my 1970 F250 2WD, I have become aware that I don't have a limited slip differential. On wet pavement, one of the tires spins if I give it enough gas. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem since I don't intend to drag race the truck, but I do intend to tow a small fishing boat, and I can see me spinning one of my tires trying to pull the trailer out of the wet boat launch. Is it possible to convert my existing rear end to an LSD, or do I need to find one and rebuild it? I have seen a forged steel 9" 28-spline trac-lock unit on ebay for $310. How difficult is the conversion for someone who is mechanically inclined with a good set of tools? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I installed the PowerTrax No Slip last year. You can follow it in my project thread (see signature below) on pages 11-12. I'd highly recommend taking it to a rear end shop to get the gears and preload set though. I'll never try to do that again without the proper tools and equipment!

That is one heck of an amazing project. Nice work. Considering that you clearly have more experience at this than I do, I'll heed your advice and leave the rebuild to the professionals. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Conversion to LSD
Thanks! FWIW, I had NO experience at the rear end thing, just a lot of good advice and instruction. It's probably going to come apart the first time I hit the gas. The PowerTrax is a little pricier but, in my mind, the ease of installation makes up for it and it seems like a really tough unit. Plus, the reviews I read in a couple of different muscle car mags gave it good reviews. Good luck and keep us posted.
