Which Transmission?

I brought my new 1970 F250 home today and started trying to figure out what I just bought. So far, I know that it has the 360 and camper special package, but the tech pages in this forum suggest that the transmission code "G" just means that it's an automatic. All of the other letter codes are for a specific tranny (C4, C6, T-85, etc.). Can anyone tell me what I have or how to find out?

Well, if it is an automatic, it must be a C6.

C4s were never used behind an FE block.

Cruisos were not used in 1970.

FE blocks never mated to FMXs in 1970.

CWs were not used in 1970.

Unless you have a conversion job, there is no other possible automatic in your truck.

The C6 is what I was hoping for. I also know that it has the 3.73 rear end, which is better for MPG but not as good for towing.

I just learned that myself today. No wonder I can't find a C4 that will fit behind my 352!

Kind of a tangent, but what engine would be in a '68 with a C4? I know '67 was the last year for the 352. Did they move to the 351 in '68? My brother has a '68, and he SAYS he has a C4, but now I'm wondering ...

That's what I originally had in my '67, from looking at my tag, but I have a C6 now. Good bomb-proof tranny, from what I understand.

No idea what motors came in 68 trucks but here is a list of motors that I know C4s fit in the 60s;

260V8, 264V8, 289V8, 302V8, 351WV8, 170L6, 200L6, 223L6

There might be more possibilities, but I just don't remember.
