tranny fill

Post by abe »

where is the filler plug on my 1970 F350 4 speed transmission? I have looked at the diagrams on this site but haven't seen one that show it precisely. I was under the truck today doing some wiring work so I looked quickly but didn;t see it.

My transmission is shifting hard and I am thinking it it may be low on gear oil.

What kid of gear oil does it take? And I assume you fill it up to the filler plug...

Use 80-90 gear oil. The filler plug and drain plug should be on the passenger side of the tranny. They are a square head (not like a bolt) and I think they use a 3/4 end wrench if I remember correctly.
