71 F100 with a 3 speed
My clutch quit working today. I had to make a replacement rod from the clutch pedal that goes through the floor. Now I'm trying to hook it all back up.
With the pedal all the way up, I still have about 2 or 3 inches from the swiveling bolt with 2 nuts to the clutch fork. Shouldn't there be a piece between the bolt and the fork ? The threads on the bolt are clean and shiny like the part that rides on the fork has fallen off.
Does anyone have pics of what this area looks like ? Or what the parts are called ? Got to have it going no later than tomorrow night.
Thanks
I think I'm missing a part

Good day Wildcard,
I think this thread may fix you up: Short clutch release rod: how can I find/make a longer one?

Re: I think I'm missing a part
Thanks Robroy.
That was what I was looking for. I went back down to the store parking lot where it quit at, and dang if I didn't find the part laying in the lot.
The top of the rod had worn almost completely through and slipped out of the pedal. Parts stores said it was a dealer or salvage item. Going to salvage yard tomorrow.
I had a floor shift kit from about 3 years ago that I only used 1 bracket out of and put the rest back for future parts. I took 2 of the threaded linkages and put nuts on them. Then cut each to just under half the length of the damaged rod. Ran the nuts off to straighten the threads, then put the nuts back on. Took a 3" long coupling from the kit to connect them. Adjusted them to the correct length and tightened the nuts against the coupling.
The only problem is getting the cotter pins in. The shifter linkage doesn't have as long an end as the factory clutch rod. But the rod and pin hole diameters are the same. But I got pins in them. It will last probably a few weeks. But I will get it fixed right this week.
Only bit of humor came when I called O'Reillys and told the woman what I was working on and what I needed. She had to go to the books and see if they carried them. Came back and asked.............. Manual or automatic transmission ? I couldn't help but tell her I didn't know.

Re: I think I'm missing a part
Good evening Wildcard,
You're welcome! Glad you found your part.
If you'd like to buy a reproduction push rod that connects the pedal assembly to the Z-Bar, NPD might still sell them. What should I do about this worn clutch linkage rod?
I put one of these NPD reproduction rods in my truck and it worked OK.

Re: I think I'm missing a part
Went to the salvage yard this evening. Found a 71 with the same motor and transmission as mine. Got the rod and it's in excellent shape. No wear anywhere. The bushings are in fair shape but I would like to find some new ones and replace them one day.
Gonna go back and look at the steering column closer next time. Got there almost at closing time so Ididn't have much time. I was wondering if the clutch/brake pedal assembly has to come out to get column out.
