Will it work.....?

Post by SevNT2Bump »

I have an automatic C6 and the shifter on the column doesn't work. The shifter was moved to the floor prior to the truck becoming mine. I bought a donor truck that I was able to get a bunch of goodies from. The donor truck has a manual transmission and the shifter on the column works real nice.

I was wondering if I swapped steering columns from the donor and installed it onto mine, would the shifter on the column work? The old linkage in mine is still hanging there to hook back up. By all appearances, the steering columns look identical, from the steering wheel to the rag joint.

Does anybody know if this will work? :drive:

The auto column has a pawl in it to hold the tranny in park. The manual column would not have this. That could be a safety issue.

Well shucks! I was just hoping it would be an easy exchange.

Thanks Flyboy.

Put an ad in the parts wanted section. I'm sure someone has something that would work for you.

Yep, the auto columns are pretty common. However, the manual columns are getting harder to find so you may be able to get a few bucks out of that one.

I'll probably try to sell it on Craigslist. It would be a shame to leave it on the truck when they haul off what I haven't taken from it.

Thanks again for the info :)
