Closed knuckle oil and seal source 3500 lb D44?

Post by nchorsepower »

I went through my brakes and hubs this weekend and went as far as sending out the backing plates for powder coating. Rock auto had all the parts to completely rebuild the brakes, at good prices. I opened the lower king pin plates and naturally the knuckle oil was not dry, but empty. The seals are probably shot but I'll save that job for another day. Is there a source for the knuckle seals for a large dana 44 or do people make them themselves? I refilled the knuckles with Cotton Picker gearbox oil from the farmers CO-OP and it has stayed in so far. Any advise on sources for knuckle rebuild parts would be a big help.

Nice to see that Bronco Graveyard is selling those again. They were out of stock for a looooong time. When I couldn't find new seals for mine I resorted to drilling and inserting a zerk fitting in the end of the fill hole plugs. Now I just squirt a bunch of grease in there every six months or so and it has been fine. Since they are selling the wiper seals again I may have to pick up a set and make it right...

I got my from bronco graveyard. I didnt put oil back in for fear of leaking so I had packed my trunion bearings full of grease like I would for regular wheel bearings and I just smothered the knuckle full of grease.

Do they make a good trac-lok posi type? I would love to see both front wheels work a little more in harmony. But not locked to the point I start breaking stuff.
