03+ Crown vic rear end w/ high offset rims

Post by hvb68 »

Hi, i've been lurking around here for a bit gathering info for the mods I plan on my fairly recently aquired 1970 f100 Ranger LWB. I am planning on doing the 03+ crown vic front end swap and would like to install the rear end as well from the same year (or so). I understand that these rear ends are wider than the previous generations and most guys are shying away from them but I know some seem to be using them. I am planning on using some 18" or 19" rims from a S197 mustang platform. The 10" wide 19" rears I have are a high positve offset rim with 7.39" of backspace and a +48 offset. The 18's are a 8.5" rim with I believe about a +45 offset. It seems to me that the rims I have should tuck inside the rear fenders but would like to hear from anyone that has installed this rear end and has had or not had clearance issues.

I could easily find a rear end from an earlier model but with the rims I plan on running I don't want the rims rubbing on the inner fenders or tucked in too much.

can anyone actually confirm the width of the 03+ rear end? I have read it's 70" hub to hub but I can't believe that. I have read somewhere else that it is around 65.5" which would make more sense. If the 02 and older ran 0 offset rims with a 61.5 " width and the 03+ ran +50 offset then the rear end should have only increased in width by about 4 inches which would put it around 65.5" approx.

IDK about the Crown Vic swap but :wel: from Georgia! Several other members here have done it though. Here's a thread with some dimensions http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 34#p626834 May not be the one's you need, just scanning.
