Install of 78-79 axle?

Post by KRob »

Guys i am sure this is one of those ones that i just havnt found a previous thread or faq on so if there is one please point me to it.

I have a 71 F250 4x4, i want to put either HP Dana 44 or Dana 60 (depending on what i find first) with disc brakes on it.

Is this a direct bolt on or do you have to weld new perches on or outboard the springs?

Sorry i know this is one of those beat to death ones and i'm just to dumb right now to find the information.

Thanks
Rob

not sure if the 4x4s are the same, but on the 2 wheel drives the spring mounts has to be move out about 2 inches on each side because the 73-79 axle housings are 4 inches longer. Also the springs are wider so you have to use the spring pads off your truck on the newer housing. But like I said don't know if the 4x4s are the same.

Also you may get more info on this if you post it in the 4x4 and off road section also.

Thanks, question was answered on http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 01#p629901

And yes its a direct swap. The if you use a low pinion you dont have to change drivelines but since im going with a mated 205 the high pinion should make better geometry.

Once again i felt like an idiot asking and not being able to find the answer.

I've owned and worked on our trucks, (bumps/dents/Broncos/BII's/Rangers) for over 30 years and still have to ask questions.
