Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
Not sure where to post this, so I'm starting here ...
I'd like to get new carpet for my '67. It originally came with a Cruise-O-Matic transmission, but it grew into a C6 over the years. All of the catalogs specify one carpet for non-C6 trucks (low hump), and a different carpet for C6 trucks (high hump). As far as I can tell, the truck still has the original low hump. I actually have a high hump from a parts truck. Should I put the high hump in before I get the carpet set, to give the C6 more room? If it needs the high hump, why have I gotten by with the low hump (so far)?
By the way, a '67 F250 2WD Camper Special with a 352, if it makes a difference.
Thanks,
Joseph

Re: Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
A C6 will fit without installing the removeable hump, but man it's tight. When I first installed the 390/C6 with the low hump in my truck, the C6 was actually touching the floorpan. I'm going to be installing the high-hump sometime in the very near future myself for a little additional clearance.
I think you should put it in yours as well, just to make future servicing go much easier.

Re: Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
Are replacement high humps available anywhere? What is the height of the low and high? My truck is a 68 F100 it had a 360 with a 4 speed and Im putting in a 460 with a C6.

Re: Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
If your truck originally came with the 4-speed, you already have the high hump. You will need to fabricate a piece to cover the shifter opening, unless you are planning on a floor shifter for the C6.68 RATROD wrote:Are replacement high humps available anywhere? Re: Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
My truck is a bunch of different trucks put together so I am not sure what it originally came with as far as a tranny. It has a C6 now. Because it has a narrow brake pedal and a column change I wonder if it used to be a stick.
How do you tell what hump you have? Height?

Re: Question on C6 and Low Hump vs. High Hump
My 68 F100 short bed was a 2WD 360 column shifted three speed manual from the factory. It had the low hump. I installed a C6 so I cut out the floor and installed the high hump cover. I bought my high hump cover on EBay and it was pretty cheap. I think the 2WD floor pan is the same and the hole and the cover are what makes it a high hump. The high hump gives you a lot more room between the tranny and the floor. I can see how they might hit on a very rough road. Also, tightening up the tranny bolts is a lot easier with the high hump.

Larry, you probably ID'd the truck as being a former standard shift by what you said above. Maybe the pedal tutorial will also help you ID it:67 Camper Special on Sun Nov 04, 2012 6:24 am

I also remember there being a comparison photo of the covers here somewhere-but couldn't find it.
Here's what my high hump cover looks like, maybe it will help:

Your quite welcome. And the good news is there does still seem to be a good supply of these if you look hard enough. Maybe post a "wanted" ad here:67 Camper Special on Mon Nov 05, 2012 6:28 am
