Wow Randy the truck looks great. Your progress makes me feel ashamed that i havent done anything on my truck at all this year.

Thanks David. No need to be ashamed, I'm disappointed in my progress this year. I figured to be done with body work by now but "life" has tended to get in the way.

So I went to visit Southern Polyurethanes today. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com Great bunch of guys. Thanks for the tip Stephen44, Barry says hi! Bought white primer sealer, activator and reducer. Andy and Barry were very helpful with tips, pointers and advice on getting my truck ready for color. Speaking of color, here's what she's going to look like. It's their 2 stage base coat/clear coat red. Can't wait to see this in the cab next spring!

Sand and primer...primer and sand...sand...sand...sand. Sanded cab down with 400 grit and now it's ready for the final coat of sealer. Before I do that I had a few more parts to get ready. Inner fenders, POR-15 and textured undercoating on back side, two coats, sanded with 220 grit and last coat of primer.

Radiator support and inner fender mounting brackets got coated with two coats of POR-15 but when I opened up my 1/2 quart of high gloss Chassis Black it was mush So I moved on to the door panels and doors. Got some sheet metal work to do on the doors but I wanted to get 'em primered so they wouldn't rust till I'm ready to start work on them.

Now back to sanding. Gotta hit the primer side of the fenders with 400 grit and then I'll spray my white sealer on the cab and inner fenders while I wait for more gloss black to come in so I can finish my rad support.

Your doors don't look too bad, the corners need patched, but it looks like the bad metal doesn't reach above the body line, so that's a Much easier patch panel! And I'm guessing plug weld the mirror holes you're not using? unless you're mounting some super heavy duty mirrors that need 7 bolt holes.

I had been using a HF cheapo gun to spray the POR-15 but when it came to primer and top coat I decided I needed a higher quality gun so I got this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DVR-802343/ Amazing difference in spray and feel.

I knew I wanted red so a while back I started this thread http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a and Stephen44 posted up that pic. Turns out they're about an hour away from me. I wanted "New York City hooker's fingernail red" and think that qualifies.

Apparently the PO had some west coast mirrors on her and instead of taking the time to actually take the bolts out he RIPPED 'em out. The other holes are from the $5 Autozone mirrors he put in to replace 'em. I'll have to back it up with a piece of sheet metal, plug and fill. Also tap the pucker back down to match the body line. I think I lucked out on the corners of the doors. About a 2"x3" patch will cover about all of it. I had used a donor truck to get my p/s column so while I was at it, I cut the lower skin off of the doors just to do that. Thanks for the words of encouragement and support!

So my week off's almost over and I'm almost accomplished what I set out to do. Cab and inner fenders are sealed with white epoxy and ready for winter storage. Got some more glossy black ordered to finish the rad support and inner fender mounting brackets. Doors and door panels are primered to prevent rusting. I guess I'll be piddling around on her for the winter months.

Thanks Jerry. Yeah, making progress on the truck but the porch still needs painting, the grass needs cutting, the bushes need trimming, the house needs pressure washing, the [censored] needs repainting, 2 electrical outlets need replacing, firewood needs splitting, etc, etc ..... A man has to keep his priorities straight. I hope to media blast my fenders and alternator bracket his weekend

I really like your style Randy. Enjoyed looking at all the photos. I'm well aware of what it takes to do the job right, just not able to cut it anymore. Keep up the good work. I'd like to see it in person someday when it's finished. Have A Great Ford day!
