new bumper

I had been planning to make this bumper for some time now and yesterday I did it. Used 6 5/8" steel tube, 3/16" sidewall, held on by 1/4" plate. The plate is bolted to the frame using 1/2" grade 8 bolts, and welded. Took about 6 hours to complete. Still not sure what color Im going to paint it, also need to clean up the left side of it from were I cut it, but other than that its done.. whos chevy should I ram first???






before I started the bumper I modified the front frame on both sides, this way I can lay some sheet metal on top of it and add a winch...someday.

Nice job You should rig it up so it is a bumper slash giant potato cannon and blow a hole in the side of ricers at the light.

Actually what you should to is cap off the ends to make it air-tight and then weld some quick-disconnet fittings onto the ends. You'd have a very cool portable compressed-air tank. I had a rear step bumper set up like that and really liked it. The end cap with the fittings should be recessed a few inches to protect the fittings.

Dangerous? Why? Are you thinking that with 90-100 PSI of compressed air it could explode or something? How much do you trust your welding?

I don't think there would be anything to worry about. The off-roaders have been doing this for years, since they drop their tires' air pressure once they arrive at wherever they're off-roading, and then have to re-inflate once they're ready to hit the road to go home. That's some pretty stout pipe you used, and believe me...if you hit something hard enough to tear that steel, you've got more to worry about than a rapid release of air.

I saw someone who did something similar. He got a set of air horns off a semi and hooked them up to it. Plus, never hurts to have extra air.

my friends said paint "Built Ford Tough" on the front of it backwards, so when people look in ther mirrors to see behind them they can read it.
