Mounting a 2WD cab on a 4WD Frame

OK,

So there are extra holes to drill, no worries... but I am using a 68 Cab, and the tank mounts differentlt than the 71.... so when mounting the 68 tank in the retainer plates, to which set of bolt holes do the retainer plates mount? Does the 68 4x4 have different lower tank mounting brackets than a 2WD?

Hope the question is clear... the solution isn't....

I believe our newer tanks don't use the retainer plate, (instead-we have the carriage bolts that run through the cab itself).
Not real sure if that answers your question or not-but this might:

Because of the 3-bolt design of the early tanks vs. the 5-bolt design of the later tanks, they are not interchangeable without drilling the tank lip. The later tank also is bolted in at the bottom flange, whereas the early tank simply sits in a pair of grooved plates secured by the rear cab mounting bolts.

Yep read it.... but it doesn't state how the retainers are mounted since I will be using a 68 tank in a 68 2WD cab drilled for a 4WD...

The 2wd cab uses the inside holes for cab mounts, a 4wd uses the outside holes for cab mounts-- they need to be drilled useing a 2wd cab. You'll need 4x4 tank mounts to work, the 2wd tank mount's don't come out far enuff to work on a 4x4 mounting location.

You won't have any tank problems.... but you will need to use a 71 tank and fuel line. If you have a 68 tank and want to swap (I have a 71 and need a 68), let me know!

You will need to drill the cab mounting holes... I lined up the cab and drilled from the bottom up (wear eye protection!) so that there would be no question if the holes were in the right place...

You will need to fill the holes for the old cab mounts....

The problem only happens going backwards... ;(
