Dan, here is the thread where I got the idea to do it http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =7&t=42150 . Jeff (Flyboy71) pulled the cowl off of his. I know it's going to be a ton of work, with all of those spot welds, but I think it's worth it in the long run, and I'm pulling out the dash panel anyway, so might as well do the cowl too!

Hey, I'd be up for a road trip to help you with the highboy!! Just gotta convince the wife now...LOL

Hey Pat, Looks great man, keep it up! :thup: Why were you planning to pull the dash panel, did I miss that?

Did you get anywhere on the fender mount "Hat bracket" repair? I think I'll have to do the same..

I"m going to be installing (hopefully) the dash out of a 79, with AC. I want the vents in the dash, instead of using the under dash unit. I'm hoping to get some work in this weekend, my stupid tendonitis has kept me from being able to do much. The wife's honey-do list had gotten pretty long also, so I had to take care of some of that also!

A dentside dash would be really cool! I haven't seen that done to a bump yet.

I have thought many times about putting a dentside dash in a bump for the same reason. If I remember correctly the dent side dash is actually bolted in instead of welded in like on the bump but the mounting points are the same. Not positive though.

I know it will at least partially unbolt, not certain it will come entirely out. My Dad's 79 had a heater core rupture all over the floor. It had dealer installed air conditioning, and to get to the heater core we had to nearly remove the entire dash.

The plan is to cut out the entire front cab section, hopefully with the plasma cutter Santa should bring me, then bring it home and remove the dash out of it.

Some progress this weekend. Got the drivers side cab vent box removed off of the cab. Now I can get the metal on this corner replaced. I'm probably going to leave this box off, until I get the cowl removed, so I can sandlblast this entire area.

Looking into the cowl. This is why the cowl is coming off. I want all of this rust removed and the area coated, so this doesn't become an issue in the future.

I removed a section of the front cab corner, that has rust damage. This is what's inside of there. So, I'm going to have to figure out exactly how I'm going to neutralize all of this rust, before I replace this peice. I'm going to go ahead and make the new rocker piece and weld it in. Probably won't replace the corner, until after I get the cowl off, and get as much of this blasted as possible. May take the rest of this panel that I cut off, so I can clean and coat it all.

This is a spot on the inside kick panel, looking in from the back. Going to have to patch this also. Really makes me wish I would have gotten a better cab, but didn't know it was this bad when I bought it, so just have to get it fixed!

I have never seen someone put so much effort into a cab before but wow it will be nice when you complete it. :thup:
Thing is this is very nice to watch cause it shows me i can get mine fixed if i choose to. Man that is gonna be a lot of work :cry:

Thanks Dan, I'm basically just a glutton for punishment! Seriously, though. I've seen a couple of guys spend a ton on two trucks like this, only to have rust pop through 2-3 years down the road. I'm doing everything possible to avoid that!!

Yeah pat i understand glutton for punishment. you really are helping me make up my mind though. So many people tell me go buy a rust free cab, but after 35-40 years they are not "rust free", and i sure don't want rust bubbles in my nice paint after just two years so good info here.be a waste of money and just make ya :hs:

I am interested in knowing why you didn't just acid dip it instead of tearing out every weld?
