shifter removal NP435??

I did do a search and found some other posts regarding this subject but I'm confused. The info I found talked about a spring loaded cover/sleeve that has to be pushed down and turned to spin it off. However, mine has no such cover/sleeve - just the alum cover/housing that is bolted to the main trans case.

Does the 'pin' sticking out both sides need to be driven out?

The reverse is to the right and down - so its a NP435 correct??

Any help/pics would be greatly appreciated!

You have to push down really hard and turn it to get it off. The other
4spd. would be a T18/19 and that one the top unscrews.
I've had to get somebody to help getting them off on the NP before.
One to push down and one to turn it. Theres a spring underneath it.

Thanks for the reply but that's the same answer I've found elsewhere and it doesn't make sense for what I'm looking at.

Push down on what?? There is no cover except what is bolted to the main case! I must really be 'missing something' here (I mean me - not the truck)!!!

I don't see a separate component that can come off unless I take all the bolts out. Is this 'cover' alum, or steel?? round or square?? I guess a picture would be the best way to explain if anyone has one. I can try to take one tonight.

The cover is right around the stick on the top of the tranny.

It's the part that looks like half of a ball that the shift rod comes out
thru. It's smooth on top and it can be fun to get off sometimes. It sits
inside the top housing where it comes up from the flat part. It might be
covered up with old grease.

My 'light bulb' actually flickered on for a bit this morning (before seeing many of your replies here) and I figured it out. Since the term 'cover' had been used, I was looking for something outside the 'housing' - not inside as mentioned above. But when I walked past it this morning I thought maybe?!?!?!? and sure enough it came out. It actually came out quite easily - not as difficult as some have described.
