Tracking Question

Post by TEXAS 70 RANGER XLT »

Hey Fellers,

I have a Ford 9" 3.25 under my F-100 and I have noticed that the rear end wheels track inside the path of the front ones and its been that for as long as I can remember. The truck handles just fine but I'm curious.

Was that a design feature for F-100's or other models?

Is that unique to my truck?
If you always do what you've always done. You'll always get what you always got.

No, its cool. They are all that way. I forget exactly why. I believe it was done for handling purposes. There was a discussion awhile back about that. Try doing a search.

That's the reason I run wide rims out back. To give it a more proper stance from the rear!

I have heard it's because when Ford went to the twin I beam front end, the front track was widened by 2", but they left the rear alone until 73. 73+ trucks are closer, but still a little out of line.

I always thought it was one reason I could do so good in the snow with mine. Go figure, I get stuck in wet grass but go where I want in the snow, lol
I have a housing out of a 73-79 that I am going to put under my 71 f100 one of these days to widen the stance.
