bellhousing question.

Post by hutch1973 »

Searching ebay for a bellhousing for my truck. I have a 68 f100 4x4 with the NP-435 trans. (According to the links on this site) The truck had a 351w in it which I'm pulling for a 390. I've noticed on ebay that they list different casting numbers for the bellhousings and want to make sure I get the right one for my truck. Anyone know the difference?

I know the 351 won't work, I'm curious about how universal the housings are for the different transmissions.

the transmission to bellhousing pattern is the same for all 65-up ford truck transmissions. NP435, T-18, T-19, 3spd

The 64-down use a different pattern, like the T-98

The casting number on the FE bellhousing I will be using on my 67 short bed is C5TA-7505-B. I am not sure if this is the only casting number that will work but this bellhousing was on a mid 70s F-250 with a 360 and the C5 in the casting number means 1965 which was the first year for the FE in the light duty trucks. The "T" in the casting number means it is for a truck.
Hope this helps.
