hood hinges

Post by dotcentral »

I have decided to clean mine up, knock off the surface rust and paint them. What color should they be? I'm leaning towards either a satin or semi-flat black, or sort of a gray metal color.

Were these painted at the factory, or just bare metal?

I'm pretty sure they were a natural metal color from the factory, but they wouldn't have been bare metal. There was a '70 that came through E-bay a while back with only 358 original miles, here's a shot of the hinges on that truck.

Factory finish is gray phosphate. You can use a gun kit like here:

Eastwood has a phosphate spray:

Or try something like this:

If it were me, I'd just use the Eastwood spray and call it done. :)

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try a rustoleum metal color and see how that looks. Not going for a resto, just wanting to clean it up a little.

When I do mine, I'm going to go with gloss black for the engine compartment, so that's what color the hinges will be
