Upper valance panel and hood latch receiver differences

Post by FORDification »

I've been telling you all about the differences I recently discovered in regards to differences in the upper valance panels used on the '67-'68 trucks vs. those used for '69-'72 trucks. However, I haven't had a '69-'72 panel to use for a comparison photo. However, today while I was scrounging around the attic in my shop, where I've been storing some spare parts, I DID run across a '70 upper valance panel, so I got the following shots:

This one shows the difference in the two hood latch receivers:

In this picture, the '69-'72 upper valance panel and hood latch receiver is on top and the '67-'68 panel and receiver is on the bottom.

...and here's a shot of the two valance panels with the latch receivers removed, so you can see the difference in the openings a bit better:

Just so you know: you can use a '67-'68 upper latch receiver with a '69-'72 upper valance panel, but not vice versa. That is, a '69-'72 latch receiver will NOT fit a '67-'68 panel without modification (enlarging the hole in the appropriate spot).

I have updated Page 2 of the Identifying 1967-1972 Ford Pickups ID page with these pictures for future reference.

I also added a pic to the section on the same page dealing with the differences in the lower valance panel, to include a shot of a '70-'72 valance panel installed with a '67-'69 grille.

Can a '67-69 upper valance panel be used with a 70 grille frame?

Yes....the only difference between the early and late valance panels is the hood latch receiver hole. Everything else is identical.
