Well I just pulled my fender off the other day and the left one had 2 large washers that were stuck to the back under the bolt. Like a large C. They didnt drop out until I turned the fender over. They were in the space between the pad and the pillar. The right fender had none at all.
The bolt on the bottom. The one that you have to get on the ground to get out. The right one had 2 washers that dropped out and the left had none. I gues its an individual alighment issue. :hmm:

yes the 67 fender does bow out. that why i was saying it looks as if the bolt holes are to far inward on the 71 fender. i wounder if a person were or could redrill the holes and then install the fender top bolts only so the fitment was correct and then push the bottom of fender in place would it work. but since you have the 67 fender i would just fix it and put it on. thats the simple plan. and i did think i heard of aliens in nebraska lately

I have this problem on the drivers side but instead of by the door mine sticks out past the hood on the front. I have messed with this for a long time and finally gave up.

Things that make you go HMMM! Well, if nothing else, we have learned 2 things...

1. Fitment is a word that makes sense to us...

2. Them there fenders ain't lining up the same.

As for why, well, I just don't know that I can help in that area.

Good Luck Keith.

nah, I didn't have the time or energy to try to sit down and figure it out. I just grabbed another fender that DOES fit and continued on. One of these days when I'm really bored I'll start taking measurements and comparing and see if I can figure something out.
Keith,
I am not sure if anyone else noticed this but, it looks like the 67 fender curves in on the last bit whereas the 71 fender doesn't.
Just was looking at the photo and it looks like that to me.
The vantage point in the 2 photos are not exactly the same, but the 2 are NOT the same fender. That does not mean they might not be interchangable, but not the same. Those weld dents on the 67 are closer to the inside edge. The bend on the inner lip has more material and may be bent less than 90 degrees. Even the wheel well buldge looks different on the inside.

Good luck

now what a minute it might be helpful to know why. especially since I'm working on my 70 and may very well run into the same problem. I do know that the gap between the cowl and top of fender seems excessive on mine and I hope its adjustable for fitment?

is there some kind of chalk that you could put on the inside of the fender, that would allow you to see where it's rubbing. say, you put the chalk on the inside of the fender, than put it on, the chalk should show up at all of the spots that touch.,, make sense?, i'm not very good at explaining things

It's not rubbing anywhere it's not supposed to, believe me I checked very thoroughly. The upper bolt pad is resting squarely on the door pillar just like it should....it's just sitting too far out, like the pad is higher or something. I was at the shop a couple days ago but forgot to get some actual measurements, but I'm telling you, it's like either the upper bolt pad height is different between the two (although with the nekkid eye they sure look the same) or the cowl sticks out a bit further on the other trucks, requiring you to use shims to push it out to where it lines up. :hmm:

I'll definitely get some comparison measurements and closeup pics the next time I have a few minutes.
