Red stripe on grill-repainted

Post by f100ranger1969 »

I was kinda bored last week and decided to see if I could paint the red stripe on my '69 ranger grill. Using blue painters tape, I carefully masked the center section of the grille, following the lines of the old stripe. I covered the rest of the grill with newspaper from the top to down over the bumper. I painted it with Testors Gloss Red in the small hobby cans and it came out pretty nice. I don't know how it will hold up in the long term but it made my grill look really decent. Heres a pic, judge for yourself.

Looks great. When I was a kid I could give my models a really good paint job with that paint!

Thanks! You know hobby paints seem to me to be overlooked as a great way to do some automotive fixes on a small scale. I always was a big model builder back when I had time and learned to be very detail oriented. I'm kinda looking at my real truck project from that perspective. Wish the cost of doing the real thing was as low as the model size version tho!

 great job. I only see one problem with the second pic though. Now the red on your truck on the front almost looks orange, (thank you mister sun) That grill sure looks good though

That is a really nice job. I re-painted my hood emblems back in '99 with testors paint and it is now finally due for a new coat so it should last you awhile. :D

I painted mine "Colipsol Coral" like the color of the truck--(orange). It is amazing how often I find myself in the "craft store" to purchase something for one of my auto projects!!
