3 speed shifter rebuild HELP

Post by papabug71 »

I am in the process of rebuilding my 3 speed P/S column & need a little help. I am using the link provided by Fordofication & its going smooth so far.

I ran into a little problem last night tho. I have the column out of the truck & have the steering shaft out, but I cant get the shifter tube out of the column. I also have all of the shift arms & the plastic shims/washers out of it. How do you get the shift tube out & from what end does it come out??

Thanks guys.

it comes out of the top. you have to work it out as you pull the shifter arms and wasshers out of the bottom of the column where they coems out at. if its stuck its just dirty and needs to be sprayed down with some pb blaster probably.

Ok, I have the bottom soaking in gas right now trying to remove the grease. I'll soak the top later in the day. It must just be dirty. It probably had 5 tubes of grease inside it. What a mess.
