5.4L Triton Install
I have a 1971 4X4 and want to install 1999 5.4L Triton V8. Still trying to figure out if I have NP 435 or a T18 4 speed manual trans. Any one making a bellhousing, flywheel and clutch assembly to complete this conversion? Thanks for the help.

5.4 should be a small block bolt pattern i would think. but i cant say for sure. i do have a small block bellhousing if you want one of those.

There might be something out there but most of the guys doing that either use an auto or use the 5 speed instead. Might look around on the internet and see what you can find but I have never head of a concversion for that motor to a 4 speed.

2001 F-250, Extra Cab, 4x4, 7.3 Direct Injected Turbo Diesel, Edge Programmer, Flowmaster 4" Turbo back Exhaust, 3" Leveling Kit with 33" Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs, and has 250,000 miles and counting.

i'd say hit up one of the lightning sites, like the "nloc" and see what those guys know. i think some of the mod motor guys are running power glides and they may be able to point you in the right direction on a bell housing conversion.

I would say you will likely need to modify (extensively) a small block bellhousing to work and machine a custom to flywheel to run a small block ring gear/starter/clutch. There might be scattershield type bellhousings out there for mod motors, but I don't know why there would be, since all late model stick trannies are integral bellhousing.
I think it's a ton of work for a bad tranny choice behind that engine. Better choice would be going with an M5R2 or ZF if you want a stick.
Also, if you're using an engine from an auto truck I don't think it will run without the tranny hooked up unless you get a ECU/harness from a stick truck.

I saw a 5.4 5speed not sure if it was an m5r2 or zf on an 04 4x4 this spring, almost bought it. Got my 05 Dodge instead. Would not come down from 12,500 with 68,000 on the clock. Had it for about 18 months. Anyway they are out there, I didn't think they made them because I had never seen one.

The question was more whether the M5 was used behind the 5.4, not if they were made with a 5 speed. All the 5 speed 5.4 and V10 trucks I've seen have been ZF S5-47 trannies. I honestly haven't seen a 5 speed F150 with a 5.4 though so I can't say one way or the other. The 5.4 truck you were looking at, did you drive it and did you start off in first or did it have a granny first?

No once I found out he wasn't willing to deal I did not want to waste his time nor mine, so I never got into it.
I honestly cannot prove that it was a 5.4 I took the dealers word. He has been truthful to me in the past so I did not question him either, I was surprised because I had never seen one either, but he was pretty confident that it was.
