Hello all Ford junkies,
Im right in there with you,in fact Im jonesing right now,for a Ford Fix,so here goes,Its getting down to the wire,My e4aod is jumping in and out of gear, sometimes it shifts normal, and other times it shifts like its got a shift kit in it,and a stall torque converter,it shifts so hard that it will snap your head back, not good, its a stock unit, but Ive got a near about new T-18 waiting to go to work,Ive already interviewed him,and he met all qualifications, his piss test was clean,so I hired him, were still working out a start date, but ive talked to him this morning, and hes ready to go.were just waiting for the rest of his crew to show up,Im gonna need a rubber boot for the shift cane, and some little odds and ends,Im buying all new clutch parts, like the complete disk,P Plate TO.bearing, pilot bearing, master and slave cylinders, and all the expendable parts, that can be replaced, the old stuff looks OK,but when I tighten that last bolt,I want to know Ill be good to go for a while, you guys know what Im saying?Just as soon as I start the retro,Im gonna do a step by step of the removal, and install, with pics,to help out our next brethern that wants to do this swap.Youve gotta see this tranny, fellas,Ive been a mechanic for near bout a full military career, and Ive seen my share around the shop, but Ill tell you,its once in a blue moon that you come across a used tranny in this good of condition,no wear what so ever on the gears, the teflon covers are all intact, and look like new on the shift forks, the paint isnt even worn off the shifter, where your hands touch most of the time,I got lucky.I got the T-18,hydraulic clutch bell housing, with all brackets, the cover plate, rear trans mount, all electrical connections, drive shaft, front yoke, fly wheel, and clutch and brake pedals,(from a 96)all
the nuts and bolts, etc for 250$ It did help that my uncle owns the shop! I had to ship the tranny to my broker in Miami, and get it forwarded to me in panama,I took a 88 lbs suitcase on the plane in check baggage with the bell, flywheel, pedal set up etc,it was an adventure, but I had fun,and so should you!!!! :woohoo:
We"ll talk later SKEEFOO In Panama.

Whats up Ford Dudes!

I just got of the phone with LMC truck,I had to order some more stuff, the idler pully decided to go on vacation, and the bearing came apart, luckily,it was in my drive way,and I didnt have to pay a tow truck, like I did when my fan belt snapped, about 4 miles from home, keep in mind,Im in Panama, and I couldnt get a tow from a friend, that sucked, from the looks of it,I just may be able to use my drive shaft for the T-18 swap,Ive got the other one,but well see how it goes,.If I change the yoke over,it may work.Im just getting every thing else fixed on the Ford, getting ready for the swap, well talk soon, SKEEFOO,in Panama.

Thanks Alvin,
Mine is a different year,it has that plastic idler pulley, with that most common bearing in the world in it,problem is,if you remove the bearing,it destroys the pulley,so Im having to order it new.what a drag,Ive even got a couple of them bearings laying around still in the package,,oh well, what do you do? Fix Or Repair Daily?

I got a chance to install the clutch cable but I not finished with it, this cable can be found in acuras and hondas. I pull cable out of sleeve and put it in backwards, I still need to get cable clamps so I can finish it. I will post more tomorrow

I got back home an hour ago and wonted to see this cable work, so I put a pair of vice grips on the end. then I adjusted the cable, started her up with the drive shaft disconnected and the peddle work perfectly without going to the floor. I am tempted to grab all my vice grips and take it for a test drive. the cable works smoothly with out a spring  :woohoo:

I have been driving it around today and it runs great. the 82 f250 2wd drive shaft is the right length but the rear joint is too wide, so I got one from a 71 f350 2wd part number 1-0134

I like this trany a lot, my only problem with it is with my bad habit from my fiero that had a slap 4 speed because I am used to slapping the stick down and to the right. this make it hard for me to always find 4th with out hitting reverse/its gate, I'd rather have reverse by 1st. most manuals I can hop in and drive it like I stole it with out grinding or shuttering, this one will try and shutter but since I have experience driving my fiero home in 3rd this is nothing. all in all I'd perfer this over most 5 speeds i have driven witch have a loss and sloppy stick
