c6 4wd trans in a 2wd?

Post by 70shortwide »

picked up a new motor the other day, long story short:
the guy didnt want to split the trans and motor up, i bought both. now i wanna sell the trans. (dont need it). its a married unit and still has the transfer case attached. my questions:
1: can this transmission be used in a 2wd? what would be necessary to do this?
2: whats this setup worth (trans and t-case) trans has a b&m shift kit and kevlar bands, for 385 series motors. supposedly has 5k miles since rebuild

All that you need to do to use the 4X4 C6 in a 2wd drive is to change the output shaft and find a tail housing.

To change the shaft, simply remove all of the guts out of the C6, replace shaft, reassemble everything back to what it is now.

a 2wd drive trans isnt worth alot. if you turn it into one. the whole assembly should be worth quite a bit i would think.

the idea of changing it to 2wd is that my buddy needs one. probly wont bother going that route, i was just looking at it earlier and thought it might be easy to do. any guesses on what its worth? its sitting where my street bike normally sits, i want to get it listed and gone but dont know what to ask.

2wd C6s are basically scrap.

I have 4 on the truck now that will be in the scrap pile by the end of the day.

The bolded part is downright funny IMO. You say it like you just casually take apart C6's without even batting an eye. :D You man, are an awesome oddity in the automotive field. JK

C6 is very easy to rebuild with the right tools.

yes its just drums and bands there is a set of planetary gears but thats nothing to worry about.i think the only special tool you need to rebuild them is a spring compressor for the drum snap rings to come out.

Super simple. I can totally dismantle a C6 in 8 minutes flat with common ordinary tools available in any tool box with a little help from an air gun. 5 minutes for aluminum powerglide, 12 minutes for 125, 15 minutes for 350, 8 minutes for 904 & 727, and so on. When I get done I have a heap of parts on the table that would take a magician to put back together.

That is taking every piece out of the case and tail housing, including bushings, seals, shafts, parking levers, plugs, bolts, etc and every piece out of every drum. Does not include dismantling the valve body.
