It should at least have something. Are you sure the linkage is actually moving the valve body?

i know, i have even shifted it manually by putting the e brake on and trying all gears from underneath. still nothing

Did you drop the pan to make sure that the linkage is actually hooked to the valve body?

I read on a mustang AOD swap article that if you go from a floor shift to a column shift you have to rotate "something" 180degrees.... But yeah, like mmerlinn said check that it's connected inside.
