OK well I think I have all this worked out. I better have because it cost a bunch. Anyway I wanted a 4 speed in my 68 shortbed 2wd. From the start it had to be a toploader. I have an old mustang fastback with a hipo 390 and toploader and man that trans can take a beating. So i got one out of a 68 smallblock mustang parts car mu uncle wrecked in 74 with 20k on it. Next was getting a bellhousing because the car was 164 tooth 11" clutch. I needed 10.5 157 tooth so I could run the smaller bellhousing. I found some longtube headers that will fit my 351w setup if I run the smaller bellhousing. So i got a ram billet flywheel and muscle car (borg & beck style) clutch. Found a bellhousing and took it in the butt on the price but I had to have it. Next came the shifter. I got the truck version of the Hurst comp plus. It has maybe 10" at the knob for a 1-2 shift. Not bad. I used parts from two install kits. The mastershift ford truck three speed and a mustang kit(i think). Anyway here is the pik so far. If I can read a tape the shifter 10" forward of the back of the floorpan and offset to the drivers side. It will be going in as soon as I find the clutch linkage setup or work out a hyd master slave setup. So if you have any ideas post them I am open to try anything other than the z bar. BTW i hate the wire clip on the back of the clutch fork.

Don't know if it would help but this is what I did for my FE in my car.
Slave is a 1960 Ford F250. Using a CJ fork, long style clutch. The car uses a Wilwood pedal assembly and master. If there's room you could firewall mount just a Wilwood master and connect to the stock pedal. Use a master like this-

the original zbar setup will not work with this, or you just dont want to use it?
