Re: changing the manual 3 speed trans rear seal
its probably as easy as removing the yoke poping the old one out and poping the new one in. tap it in evenly when it goes back in. or use a socket the same size as the outer part of the seal so it doesnt mash the edges and not seat properly.

The round seal you have in the pic is both a dust and fluid seal....... the seal you asked about at the square part of the trans is just a gasket between the tailshaft housing and the main gearbox.

That's a slip yoke style seal. The long rubber cone (aka dust seal / wipe) would go out and the metal would drive in from the outside up to the flange on the seal.
I can't say if it's the same diameters on yours to the slip yoke or not, but on my old rambler they were the same seal save for the dust seal. None of the parts stores listed anything but the slip yoke type seal so I had to cut the dust shield off to use it on my fixed yoke.
I'd suggest just taking it back to the parts store and telling them that they gave you a seal for a slip yoke trans and yours is a fixed yoke. They'll likely have it, and if not you can call around to your other local stores till ya find someone who does and buy it with the refund from yours.

it is a slip yoke type of seal. the yellow part goes inside and the black rubber part goes outside. you have the wrong seal i think. i have seen guys cut that rubber off of the outside and use a seal anyway. i am unsure how it turned out though.

Re: manual 3 speed trans rear seal edit: need help
thanks for the information.......perhaps might anyone know the stock# of the seal....i went to my local ford dealer and said 67 f100 and the guy said " our computers only go back to 1980 " ....i asked if they had microfish and he said no.. .....any idea what to torque the big nut to that holds on the fixed yoke..thanks
note...the diagram pictured shows #7052 .... it appears to be the rear seal....i wonder if this is the part number

If anyone would know the number, it would be this guy. He could probably also find the torque for you.
Call 256-835-1000 and ask for Greg Rutherford in parts. He is THE man when it comes to storing such info off the top of his head.

those diagrams would only give the main part number. the whole part number would be longer and include that number in the middles of the whole part number
