I just purchased a stroker kit for my 390 to take it to 445. It cost $1,800. I am estimating that with machine work, manifold, headers, unilite distributor and a new Holley carb, I will have somewhere over $4,000 in it. This will not be a wild high horse engine., just something streetable that pulls good and is reliable.

351W's are probably less. I can't imagine adding 302 parts to a 351W and coming up with a longer stroke. I didn't bother looking this up but I suspect that you got some bum advice on this.

SGS----

Where did you find that kit to make your 390 into a 445, and what is all included?

I picked it up at Survival Motorsports. www.survivalmotorsports.com. The kit for $1,850. includes Scat crankshaft, Scat rods, rod and main bearings, moly rings, all internally balanced. Last December, Barry was running a special where he threw in a Competition Cam and a roller timing chain and gear set for the same price. You could always ask if he would extend the special. The worst that could happen is he would say no.

Barry is a three time Hot Rod Mag engine masters challenge winner with Ford FE's. He knows his stuff. He is priced competitive with Summit and you get to talk to the master.

For the 351 stroker I think this is plenty of bang for your buck http://www.dougherbert.com/408fordwinds ... 14_615_750

Or this one

I wanted to do a stroker on my stock 302 but then found out I didn't have a 302, somebody had transplanted a 255ci from the Mustangs of 1980/81, total boat anchor. Now I hope to do a 351W stroker as well

I just got a quote to build the bottom end of my 428. I would re-use all my parts like the crank rods and such. Including a normal engine kit and machine work for just the bottom end, the guy quoted me between $1,000 and $1,200. That might help with your calculations. I plan on assembling the rest myself with some Edelbrock Aluminum Heads and a manifold and carb that I already have.

I vote stroke the 351. I have a 398 windsor and it is around 630 hp at the flywheel. It has plenty of torque too. I love big blocks too but something about the look on peoples faces when they find out it is a small block LOL.
