Does anybody know where I could get a spare tire carrier? I've looked in all my usual places to get parts and I can't find one. I'm not looking for an in-bed carrier, I'd like one to replace my worn out floppy (dangerous) factory under bed carrier. '68 F-100

Re: Spare Tire Carrier
try ebay or the parts wanted section here. if you can't find one in a junkyard. what is worn out about yours?

Re: Spare Tire Carrier
The part of the carrier that goes under the tire is worn out to the point that the hanger rod with the collar on it (the one you remove if you're removing the tire) will not hold the tire up. The tire sits 6-8 inches lower on that side and is loose. I suppose I could remove the carrier and beat it back into shape, but I wonder how long that would last?

Re: Spare Tire Carrier
Same here, had one but, we up and bolted it under my son's Chevy. LOL :)FordTruck wrote: ...just took it off since I never put them under the truck.
Looked for it a while back to give away and while digging around my
junk remembered what happened to it. :)
My parts truck didn't ever have one, you can see it's never had a tire
under it or the frame rails used for a tire carrier. Saw a "new" Chevy
pickup today on a flat-bed wrecker all that was the matter was it had
a torn-up flat tire. Looked close and sure enough it never had a spare
under it either. I had to pay extra for the tire carrier under my '75
dent side, it was a special order item, no kidding. :/
Weird world, huh?
I carry two spares...

Re: Spare Tire Carrier
Thanks for the replies. I've got some time off coming up and I'm planning on beating the old one back into shape and maybe using a washer to effectively make the collar larger so it will maintain it's shape. Seems like there is always a little project to do on the truck......but it sure is fun to drive.

Re: Spare Tire Carrier
If I don't end up putting a fuel tank there, then I plan on mounting a cable lift out of a later truck. I've put them on all my old "hinge" type setups to make life easier. The only hard one I've done was on my 91 Ranger, I had to take both rear bed bolts out and lift the bed a few inches to get room to weld. Took maybe 2 hours total on it and the rest were MUCH easier (though it wasn't exactly hard).
